ACCESS

THE CRAGS HOSTED BY THE ALPPIKERHO

The purpose of Alppikerho's Access activity is to take care of the crags hosted by the club in the Helsinki metropolitan area. These crags include Kakarsberget (Kauhala climbing rock), Kvarnby, Solvalla (Nuuksio), Rollarit, Naulakallio, and Pommikallio. Falkberget, Klöverberget (climbing prohibited), Käärmekallio, Pickala, Grottaberget, and Immersby (Sipoon Falkberget) are not hosted by Alppikerho. Alppikerho, together with the Finnish Climbing Association (SKIL), negotiates with the landowners which measures are required on the crags and takes care of the cleanliness by organizing clean-ups. If you wish to report anything regarding the crags mentioned above, e.g. bolts or anchors need to be updated or a tree has fallen on the route, please contact info@alppikerho.fi.

Alppikerho, SKIL, and the climbing club Oranki have organized the Kauhala climbing rock cleanup both in May 2018 and 2019. With the permission of the landowner dozens of mossy routes were cleaned and trees were removed to make the rock accessible for climbing. All in all nearly 30 volunteers participated in this project. The club offered wire brushes, saws, and of course an evening of celebration. The club gifted the volunteers with the brushes in order to encourage independent crag cleaning. The cleanup created a buzz on social media and gained the attention of local media such as Kiipeilylehti. The 2024 cleaning destination has yet to be decided. Do you have a crag in mind? Contact info@alppikerho.fi.

What is Access?

Before climbing crags, common rules must be agreed upon with the landowner. These include certain restrictions on the use of the crags, bolting permits, access to the crags, and agreement on parking. Please make sure to follow the agreed crag-specific rules and through your own actions ensure the preservation of the current climbing crags. For further information visit Access matters on the pages of Kiipeilyliito.

Common access instructions:

  • park in such a way that the passage of nearby residents and agricultural vehicles is not disturbed

  • don't walk too close to housing or across crops or other agricultural plantations

  • do not litter or make noise near the crags

  • respect the nature and other people

  • a permit is always required to make a fire

  • greeting and polite behavior can save many climbing crags

  • be responsible. Responsibility is included in the Finnish everyman's rights

CLIMBING PROHIBITIONS AND ACCESS PROBLEMS

All valid climbing bans and access problems in Finland can be found on the website of the Climbing Association. Please remember to follow prohibitions and restrictions, and always check the current situation of the crag on the association's website.
