CLIMBING INSURANCE AND CLIMBING MAGAZINE
Alppikerho is a member of the Finnish Climbing Association (SKIL), which publishes the twice-yearly Kiipeily magazine. The magazine is mailed to all Alppikerho members who have paid the full membership fee. The latest issue of the magazine can only be read in paper form, but you can read old magazines free of charge on Kiipeilyliitto website in Finnish.
In addition, the climbing insurance negotiated by the association with OP insurance company is a significant member benefit for members who have paid the full membership fee of Alppikerho. The insurance comes into effect on January 1st, when you pay the membership fee during January. If you pay later, it will take effect on the day of payment at 24:00 or at the time of payment. Keep the payment receipt, which shows the payment time. The insurance ends on 31 December. In case of accident, the insured proves the validity of the insurance (SKIL) with a receipt of the membership fee paid to the member club. In case of accident, save the receipt on e.g. your mobile phone, so it's always with you. And when dealing with the insurance company in climbing insurance matters, take the receipt with you.
NOTE! Sports insurance intended for OP's climbing is mainly insurance intended for domestic and short trips abroad for sport climbing. If you are planning a trip longer than three months or climbing in mountain conditions, you should take out travel insurance for this with the necessary climbing supplements. The insurance is, of course, significantly more expensive than just “Sporttiturva”-insurance, but it covers door-to-door coverage without an upper limit in euros and includes both accidents and illnesses. More information, see Insurance terms
The website of the climbing association has information on e.g. about the training and competition activities organized by the association, access information (parking near climbing crags, climbing restrictions and possible bans) and links to companies and organizations in the climbing world.
The Climbing Association is a member of the International Climbing Association (UIAA). If you look at a climbing rope or other climbing equipment, you may notice the UIAA mark, or roof association approval, on them. Trial testing and type approval of equipment is one of the services offered by UIAA to climbers
MEMBERSHIP CARD AND ALPINE HUT STICKER
You can download an electronic membership card and access your own information at http://flomembers.com/alppikerho (if you don't remember your login or your activation link has expired, send us a message).
For membership matters, you can contact Alppikerho's member representative: jasen@alppikerho.fi
There are two types of membership cards: one for those who have paid the full membership fee (i.e. also the membership fee portion of the Finnish Climbing Association, Suomen Kiipeilyliitto), and the other for those who do not want SKIL membership. From 2019, the membership card is an electronic membership card that can be downloaded from the membership register. Instructions are sent to new members upon joining, and old members are automatically sent a new card at the beginning of the year when the membership fee has been registered.
Alpine club members who have paid the full membership fee can also buy a 50-euro alpine hut sticker for their membership card, which entitles them to discounts in alpine huts in Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Slovenia. The sticker is valid for one calendar year. The sticker must be ordered at the beginning of the year as the delivery takes some time.
