DRYTOOLING TOWER

The Drytooling Tower in Paloheinä (aka “Draikkatorni“)

At the turn of 2017-2018, a three-sided drytooling tower (aka “Draikkatorni” in Finnish) for practicing drytooling was completed in cooperation with Seikkailupuisto Korkee and Alppikerho. The wall was inaugurated at the first Epiphany Competition on January 6, 2018. Today, club members actively climb at the drytooling tower on Wednesday club member shifts and on their own. We try to organize the competitions in the form of “DraikkaCup” -drytooling Cup.

Welcome to the tower!

RIGHT OF USE OF DRYTOOLING TOWER (“Draikkatorni“)

Alppikerho members are the main users of Draikkatorni. Adventure Park Korkee can reserve the tower for its use, but otherwise there is no restriction on using the tower for climbing at other times.

Alppikerho members who have bought the season ticket for the tower are free to climb there as they wish. Non-members can buy the Drytooling support membership, and thus get the same right to climb. You can also visit the tower to try it out for a one-time price (including non-members) or participate in the club's Wednesday shift. More detailed descriptions of prices and times below.

DRAIKKATORNI PRICE LIST from 1st of September till 30th of August.

The price of the season ticket for the season from 1st of September till 30th of August is 100 € for Alppikerho members. The season ticket includes both the drytooling season (from the beginning of October to the end of April, when the tower is only used by Alppikerho) and the summer season (from May to September, when the tower can also be used by adventurepark Korkee). With a season ticket, you can climb as much as you want.

If you are not yet a member of Alppikerho, and you do not want to join the club, you can simply join as a drytooling support member. The price of the drytooling support membership is 120 €, including the 1.9-30.8. season ticket.

If you are already familiar with drytooling and you have the equipment, but you don't want to buy a season ticket yet, you can buy a 10 € introductory visit.

If you are not familiar with drytooling and don't have your own equipment yet, you can come and try the sport on Wednesdays during the alpine club member's shift! Non-members, who already have their own equipment, can try it out with a normal 10 € introductory visit. If you don't have your own equipment yet, you can try it out with a 15 € introductory visit including the equipment.

All drytooling tower products are purchased in advance from the Holvi online store. When you arrive, be prepared to present receipt of payment.

Climbing and belaying

  • Climbing takes place at the climbers' own responsibility, and users take into account that:

    • There is no supervision or a responsible person on duty at the tower.

    • The condition of the bolts, anchors and holds is checked annually, but using ice axes wears out the holds more than regular climbing, so the risk of the holds breaking and/or falling is greater

    • The bolt spacing on the vertical wall is longer than a conventional indoor climbing hall; difficult movements on straight sections should be avoided in lead climbing

    • The climber's grip on the tools may slip and the tools may fall dangerously; the belayer must observe the climber's movement and stay away from the fall line.

  • Use of helmet is mandatory: Everyone staying near the wall must wear a helmet at all times during the climbing activity.

  • The climber must have his own first aid supplies when climbing the tower.

  • The upper rope must always be attached at least in two points. The anchor has two closing rings, one with a steel screwlock carabiner and the other with an steel ring. Rope goes through both steel screwlock carabiner and steel ring.

  • Only fixed quickdraws and anchors installed on the wall are used as securing points. Do not go inside the wall structure.

  • Wall or tree support cables may not be used as safety points or for climbing if they are not fitted with fixed quickdraws or holds.

  • The bolt or fixed quickdraw must not be hooked with a icteool pick.

  • Trash must be collected after climbing.

  • Adventure Park Korkee's customers or other outdoor enthusiasts must not be disturbed. Remember to behave properly.

  • Broken holds MUST be reported and route requests can be submitted: draikkatorni@alppikerho.fi
